God2Iso: How to Convert GOD Back to ISO (GOD to ISO)
God2Iso — the tool people find by searching god2iso or “god to iso” — does the reverse of Iso2God: it takes a Games On Demand (GOD) package and rebuilds a standard ISO image from its part files. The version to use is God2Iso v1.0.5 by raburton (April 2023), open-sourced under CC BY-SA 4.0. Neither Iso2God nor iso2god-rs can do this job — both are strictly ISO → GOD — which is why a separate reverse tool exists.
Download it via our download page (direct link: go/god2iso, which goes to the project’s GitHub release). One honest context note: converting games you own is a normal library-management task, but playing GOD conversions still needs a modded console or an emulator, as explained in our Iso2God vs iso2god-rs comparison.
When you actually need GOD → ISO
- Emulators and extractors that expect an ISO. Some tools in the chain only accept disc images; rebuilding the ISO from the GOD gets your game back into that form. (Current Xenia builds can also open many GOD packages directly — check before converting unnecessarily.)
- Archival and re-organisation. If your library is stored as GODs but your archive format is ISO, God2Iso is the bridge back.
- Round-tripping a conversion. Converted something with the wrong settings years ago and lost the original ISO? Rebuild an ISO from the GOD, then re-convert with the tool and settings you actually want.
- Inspecting contents. An ISO can be opened by ISO browsers and extractors to pull out files (for example install-disc content) that a GOD package does not expose directly.
What you need before you start
- A complete GOD package: the header file and its matching
.datafolder of part files (Data0000, Data0001, …). God2Iso rebuilds from those parts — a header on its own is not enough. - God2Iso v1.0.5 (Windows ZIP, 414,334 bytes) from the go/god2iso link.
- Free disk space at least the size of the rebuilt ISO — a full-size game image runs to roughly a full disc.
- The game’s Title ID helps you identify which package is which; it is stored in the GOD header and shown by most content managers.
Step by step: GOD to ISO with God2Iso
- Download God2Iso_v1.0.5_windows.zip via go/god2iso and extract it. The ZIP contains God2Iso.exe plus two Microsoft WindowsAPICodePack DLLs it depends on — keep them in the same folder.
- Verify the download if you can: the ZIP’s SHA-256 is
8d510fc3d0ad89f8fb50eece85ce4efa267e6ea65fac60fa48b63b207c15100b. That hash is our locally computed hash — we downloaded the file from the project’s GitHub release and hashed it ourselves, because GitHub records no digest for this asset. Treat it as exactly that: a fingerprint of the file we fetched, published so you can check your copy matches ours. - Copy the GOD package you want to rebuild — header file plus its
.datafolder — somewhere easy to reach, keeping the two together. - Run God2Iso, point it at the GOD package’s header file, and choose where the rebuilt ISO should be written. Keep the header and its
.datafolder side by side; the tool reads the part files relative to the header. - Let the rebuild finish. The output is a standard ISO image rebuilt from the GOD’s data parts, ready for emulators, extractors or a fresh ISO → GOD conversion.
- Sanity-check the result: the ISO should be a plausible full size for the game, and tools that read Xbox images should be able to identify its Title ID. If a tool reports the image as unreadable, re-check that the
.datafolder was complete — missing part files are the usual cause of a bad rebuild.
Honest status notes
- Dormant, not dead-broken: v1.0.5 dates from 2023-04-19 and the project has been quiet since. It is a small, single-purpose tool; quiet is not the same as broken, and it remains the standard route from GOD back to ISO.
- Licence: CC BY-SA 4.0 — v1.0.5 is the release that made it open source, per the project’s own changelog.
- Platform: distributed as a Windows build. Its README mentions a path-handling fix aimed at better Linux support under Mono-style runtimes, but treat native Linux use as unverified — plan on Windows.
- Variants exist — quality unverified. Other projects using the God2Iso name have appeared (including a “v2” and Python/CLI takes). We have verified that they exist; we have not verified their quality or provenance, so this page recommends only raburton’s original, whose release file we downloaded and hashed ourselves.
GOD → ISO vs the forward direction
| Direction | Tool | Input | Output |
|---|---|---|---|
| ISO → GOD | Iso2God fork / iso2god-rs | Xbox 360 or OG Xbox ISO | GOD package (header + .data parts) for modded consoles/emulators |
| GOD → ISO | God2Iso (raburton) v1.0.5 | Complete GOD package | Rebuilt standard ISO |
| OG Xbox XISO work | extract-xiso | XISO image or folder | Created / extracted / rewritten XISO — see extract-xiso vs Iso2God |
A rebuilt ISO is not magically a retail disc image with its original padding story intact — it is a rebuild from the GOD’s stored data. If the GOD was created with padding removed, the rebuilt ISO reflects the converted content, which is exactly what emulators and extractors need, but it is worth knowing before you treat a rebuild as a bit-perfect archive of an original disc.
Troubleshooting a failed or unreadable rebuild
Most failed rebuilds trace back to the package, not the tool. Work through this order before blaming God2Iso:
- Is the package complete? The header file and its
.datafolder must both be present, together, with the full run of part files inside. A package copied over a network or pulled off a failing drive is the classic place to lose a part. - Is it really a GOD? An NXE disc install looks similar but is a different, console-locked package (PIRS-signed rather than LIVE-signed). God2Iso rebuilds GOD packages; an NXE install is the input for NXE2GOD on the console, not for this tool.
- Did the copy finish? A GOD library moved by FTP or USB can be silently truncated. Compare the .data folder’s part count and total size against the source before rebuilding.
- Is the output plausible? A rebuilt ISO should be in the size class of a full game image and identifiable by ISO tools. A tiny or unidentifiable output almost always means the input package was incomplete.
- Still stuck? Re-download the game from its original ISO if you still have it — rebuilding is a convenience for when the ISO is gone, not a ritual to perform when the source image is sitting right there.
Frequently asked questions
Is God2Iso the same as Iso2God?
No — they run in opposite directions. Iso2God (and iso2god-rs) convert ISO → GOD. God2Iso converts GOD → ISO. You often need both across a library’s life.
Why does this page print a SHA-256 that GitHub does not show?
Because GitHub records no digest for the God2Iso v1.0.5 asset. The hash printed here (8d510fc3…100b) is our locally computed hash of the file we downloaded from the project’s own GitHub release — labelled as such so you know exactly whose fingerprint it is.
My GOD has a header file but no .data folder. Can I still rebuild an ISO?
No. The game data lives in the .data part files; the header alone only describes the package. Find the matching .data folder for that title first.
Is there a newer or better-maintained God2Iso?
Variants under similar names exist, but we have not verified their quality or provenance. The raburton original (v1.0.5, CC BY-SA 4.0) is the one this site recommends and links.
Forward conversions, hashes and both main tools are on the download page; more pairings are in the Comparisons hub.
